Description

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council invites applications for the development and creation of new writing by mid-career and established writers. emerging writers should apply under the Emerging Artist Bursaries.

Bursaries are funded through dlr Mountains to Sea and managed by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office.

Applicants must live or practice their artistic work in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Writers working in any genre may apply, this includes prose, novels, short story writing, poetry and playwriting.

Each bursary is for a total of €2,500 and funded work should take place between June to December 2025.

It is envisaged that 6 bursaries will be awarded and that they will be allocated to writers of varying career stages and a variety of writing genres.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council must be acknowledged on any work created or developed with the support of the bursary.

 
Bursary objective 

  • To support the development of writers in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in the creation of new work.


Completing the form

Applicants must include in their application an outline of the proposed work.

In order to complete the online application you should have the following ready to upload:
  • CV
  • 2 references related to your writing career
  • Samples of your work (maximum 20 pages) (alternatively or in addition video or audio samples may be provided where appropriate)

It is possible to save your application and to complete it later before the closing date.

Criteria for selection 
·        
  • Artistic merit and distinctiveness of proposal including impact on applicant's development as a writer(50/100) 
  • Quality of previous work (50/100) 

We will endeavor to support writers from a variety of career stages and genres.

Friday April 17th at 1pm: closing date for receipt of applications
May 2025: Applicants informed of outcome

Eligibility


Applicants must live in or practice their artistic work in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

A maximum of one application will be accepted from any one individual.

Employees of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council may not apply.

No late applications will be accepted

The provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 1997-2003 apply to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. Applicants should state if any of the information supplied by them is confidential or sensitive and should not be disclosed to a request for information under the aforementioned Act. Applicants should state why they consider the information to be confidential or commercially sensitive. 
 
Payments 

The Assistant Arts Officer will supervise the bursaries and will be responsible for administering contracts and payments to the writer.
