The purpose of the Environment and Climate Action Grant is to support residents’ associations, tidy town and tidy district groups who work to enhance their local environment.
Applicants must be from a residents’ association, tidy towns or tidy district group.
The maximum grant available under the 2023 scheme is €800.
Under the 2023 grant scheme, applications are invited for;
Purchase of plants or trees for public areas,
Purchase of estate name stones,
Hosting of local environmental talks, climate action workshops or local environmental campaigns (e.g. anti-litter or waste prevention campaign),
Purchase of non-mechanised minor equipment for a planting project (e.g. shovel, trowel, gloves).
A combination of the above.
Applicants can apply for a maximum of 70% of the total project cost. The group must illustrate an ability to fund the remaining 30% of the project.
This grant cannot fund the hire of contractors (e.g. landscapers, arborist, horticultural professions) to complete works. Additionally, this grant cannot be used to substitute general estate management fees. Skip hire is not funded under this grant scheme.
The project must be based within the public realm, for the benefit of all.
Applicants will be asked to demonstrate prior written approval from dlr for all projects on public land or adjacent to a roadway. For projects on public green spaces, applicants will be requested to attach permission from the Parks Section. For projects adjacent to a roadway (e.g. planter boxes on a path, names stones, hanging baskets near a junction) prior permission will be required from the Traffic Section. Please email info@dlrcoco.ie or call (01) 205 4700 to contact either the Parks or Traffic Section.
Grant Specific Award Criteria
Environment and Climate Action Grant
Funding available under this scheme is limited. Funding will be distributed fairly and transparently in line with the grant specific award criteria and scoring system.
Group and population size will be considered. Applicants must outline the number of households for a residents’ association or population for a larger tidy town or tidy district group.
Completion reports with receipts of expenditure are required to ensure transparency and accountability of public funds. Failure to supply dlr with evidence of previous expenditure will be a consideration of this grant and future funding decisions.
Approval from the relevant section within dlr will be required for all projects based on/near public green spaces or adjacent to a roadway. The Traffic Section and Parks Section can be contacted by email (info@dlrcoco.ie). Projects that fail to obtain approval cannot be funded.
Eligible applications that have met all grant criteria will be assessed with the following scoring system; population size (10%), demonstrate clear environmental benefits and a positive response to climate change (30%), expand local community engagement in the environment and climate action (30%) and feasibility of the project (30%).
