The Environment and Climate Action Grant supports Residents’ Associations, Tidy Towns, Tidy Districts and Estate Management Groups who work to enhance their local environment.
Eligibility
Applicants must be from a Residents’ Associations, Tidy Towns, Tidy Districts and Estate Management Groups.
The maximum grant available under the 2025 scheme is €800.
Applicants can apply for a maximum of 70% of the total project cost. The group must fund the remaining 30% of the project.
The project must be based within the public realm, for the benefit of all.
For all projects on public land or adjacent to a roadway, applicants will be required to provide detailed plans and prior written approval from dlr for all projects. For projects on public green spaces, applicants will be requested to attach permission from the Parks Section. For projects adjacent to a roadway, permission will be required from the Traffic Section. Please email info@dlrcoco.ie or call (01) 205 4700 to contact either the Parks or Traffic Section.
Completion reports with receipts of expenditure are required to ensure transparency and accountability of public funds. Failure to supply dlr with evidence of previous expenditure will be a consideration of this grant and future funding decisions.
Please note, funding available under this scheme is limited.
Under the 2025 grant scheme, funding is available for projects such as:
Purchase of plants or trees for public areas.
Purchase of estate name stones.
Hosting of local environmental talks, climate action workshops or local environmental campaigns (e.g. anti-litter or waste prevention campaign).
Purchase of non-mechanised minor equipment for a planting project (e.g. shovel, trowel, gloves).
A combination of the above.
This grant cannot fund the following:
Hire of contractors (e.g. landscapers, arborist, horticultural professions)
General estate management fees
Skip hire
Grant Award Criteria
Funding will be distributed fairly and transparently in line with the grant specific award criteria and scoring system. Eligible applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
Clear environmental benefits promoting biodiversity, sustainability and climate action (40%),
Overall impact and outcomes (30%)
Feasibility and sustainable project planning (20%)
Increased community engagement (10%)
Group and population size will be considered. Applicants must outline the number of households for a Residents’ Association and Estate Management Group or population for a larger Tidy Town or Tidy District group.
